Rock n Roll photography in New York.

Shot in a range of venues Lower East Side including The Mercury Lounge and Arlene’s Grocery with Brooklyn venues the Knitting Factory, Lulu’s and Union Pool as well as the mandatory Manhattan rooftop shots in the Village. I gotta say, arriving in the Big Apple to shoot music, I was expecting some pretty space age venues, with amazing lighting rigs and top end production… I did not see one venue with production gear remotely in the ballpark of Perth’s Amplifier. Some rooms were almost impossible to shoot in, i.e. the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, which had no light at all. Come to think of it, I don’t think I ever saw a smoke machine either… I eventually settle on Arlene’s Grocery as the place to shoot, as they had a bit of light, however it wasn’t much. The staff however, were very cool, and the bands everywhere were awesome. Images shot via Nikon D3 with 14 to 24mm and 16mm 2.8. The low light forced me to use the lazy mans rock photographers lens, the 70 - 200 2.8.
